South Dakota State's Silvia Zanini was named to the 2016-17 CoSIDA Academic All-District Women's Track/Cross Country First Team, announced Thursday by the organization.

Zanini, a 2017 regional qualifier in the women's hammer throw, holds a 4.00 grade point average in Exercise Science and earned a spot on the team in recognition of combined athletic and classroom performances.

The Varese, Italy native is a two-time Summit League Commissions List of Academic Excellence member, and earned a spot on the Summit League Academic Honor Roll as a Distinguished Scholar in 2014 and 2015. She was a 2015 Outdoor Track and Field All-Summit League Selection, and in 2017 took seventh in the hammer throw at the Summit League Outdoor Championships.

She holds the top five spots on SDSU's hammer throw performance chart this season, tossing a personal best of 188-02 earlier this season at the Pacific Meet.

First Team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
