Aberdeen man facing rape, assault allegations in Brookings

BROOKINGS — An Aberdeen man is in jail in Brookings following allegations of assault and rape on Dec. 1 at a Brookings residence.

Jacob David Baltzell, who was 21 at the time of his arrest and is now 22, is facing aggravated domestic assault and second-degree rape charges, according to information in a probable cause statement from the Brookings County State Attorney’s Office. The incident occurred in the 1000 block of Seventh Street.

Per information from the Brookings Police Department, a preliminary investigation indicated an aggravated assault and sexual assault occurred between Baltzell and a 32-year-old woman, and that they knew each other.

Multiple witnesses corroborated the victim’s account of the assault, according to the probable cause statement.
