The Brookings girls remained undefeated with a 64-33 victory over the Gazelles. The Bobcat boys lost 64-56.

YANKTON — The Brookings basketball teams split a doubleheader on Friday night against Yankton.
The Brookings girls remained undefeated with a 64-33 victory over the Gazelles. The Bobcat boys lost 64-56.
Each team will play Tea Area on Monday night. The girls are scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m. and the boys game will follow.
The Bobcats got out to a 19-1 lead in the first quarter and didn’t look back on Friday night. The Gazelles then outscored the Bobcats 16-15 in the second quarter and Brookings led 34-17 heading into halftime. Brookings extended its lead to 48-26 at the end of the third and then outscored Yankton 16-7 in the final frame.
Brookings shot 53.5% from the field and was 7-of-20 from three. The Bobcats were led by Logan Smidt who had 21 points. Macy Even had 19 points and three rebounds. Tess Burns had 11 points and five rebounds.
It was a tight game throughout but the Bucks had the slight edge.
Yankton led 16-15 at the end of the first quarter and then extended the lead to 30-26 by halftime. Each team then scored 15 points in the third and the Bucks had a 19-15 advantage in the final quarter to make the final 64-56.
Brookings shot 43.2% from the field and was 7-of-19 from three. Brookings was led by Brodie McCarty who had 20 points. Jase Bauer and Drew Johnson each had nine points. Bergan Tetzlaff had eight points, 12 rebounds and four assists.
Yankton was led by Carson who had 26 points and six rebounds. Bryce Kral had 16 points and six boards. Beck Ryken had eight points.
Brookings had 34 rebounds and Yankton had 25. The Bobcats had 20 turnovers and the Bucks had seven. Brookings was 11-of-16 at the free throw line and Yankton was 12-of-23.
