Bobcat girls take down Watertown, boys fall to Arrows

WATERTOWN – The Brookings girls’ basketball team picked up their fourth straight win on Friday night as they beat the Watertown Arrows. The boys’ basketball team lost to the Arrows.

The Bobcat girls improved to 8-4 with the win. They won their first four games of the season and then lost four straight before winning the next four. The girls host Sioux Falls Washington on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The Brookings boys dropped to 0-12. The Bobcats will play at Sioux Falls Washington on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Girls

Brookings 40, Watertown 35

The Bobcats used a strong fourth quarter to earn the victory on Friday night.

Brookings led 9-7 at the end of the first quarter but Watertown outscored the Bobcats by two in the second quarter and it was 17-17 at halftime. Each team scored 10 points in the third quarter. The Bobcats then outscored the Arrows 13-8 in the fourth quarter to get the win.

Brookings shot 34.3% from the field and was 3-of-15 from three. Logan Smidt had 21 points and six rebounds to lead the Bobcats. Kymber Buys had eight points.

Watertown shot 27% from the field and was 2-of-13 from three. Emery Thury, Grace Corey and Malia Kranz each had six points to lead the Arrows.

The Bobcats had a 27-23 advantage in rebounding. Brookings had 17 turnovers and Watertown had 16. The Bobcats were 13-of-19 at the free throw line and the Arrows were 13-of-16.

Boys

Watertown 63, Brookings 40

Brookings held a 14-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Arrows then outscored the Bobcats 17-9 in the second quarter and took a 30-23 lead into the locker room. Watertown extended the lead to 48-34 by the end of the third quarter and then outscored Brookings 15-6 in the final quarter.

The Bobcats shot 38.6% from the field and were 4-of-19 from three. Brodie McCarty and Jonathon Kahler each had seven points to lead Brookings. Bergan Tetzlaff had six points and nine rebounds. 

The Arrows shot 39.7% from the field and were 4-of-13 from three. Carter Buisker had 15 points to lead the Arrows. Jackson McClemans had 10 points and Isaac Rehorst had nine points. Mitch Olson had nine points and Gabe Norberg and Kaden Decker each had seven points.

Watertown had 37 rebounds and Brookings had 31. The Bobcats had 15 turnovers and the Arrows had seven. Brookings was 2-of-9 at the free throw line and Watertown was 13-of-19.
