BROOKINGS — The Brookings wrestling teams hosted Harrisburg on Tuesday night in the auxiliary gym at Brookings High School.
The Bobcat boys fell to the Tigers but the girls picked up a win. Both Brookings teams will travel to Aberdeen on Thursday to take on Aberdeen Central. The girls matches are scheduled to start at 7 p.m. and the boys will follow.
The Bobcats got off to a nice start as they won two out of the first three matches. Blake Kannegieter kicked things off for Brookings at 190 and pinned Tayden Nguyen in 3:33. Harrisburg’s Brody Sonnenschein then beat Zach Hagemann at 215 with a 15-0 technical fall. The second win of the night for the Bobcats came at heavyweight where Dylan Reynolds pinned Cooper Hodge in 5:18.
Harrisburg then won the next 10 matches. Griffin Felder and Ivan Johnson pinned Bode TeKrony and Hunter Melon at 106 and 113, respectively. Each of those matches ended in 49 seconds.
Myles Kettwig then won a 12-2 major decision over Micah Stern at 120. Wyatt Davidson pinned Haiden Baxter in 2:34 at 126 and Tristan Stoeser won an 18-0 technical fall at 132.
Steven Lamont pinned Jack Griggs in 1:42 at 138 and Lincoln Peters won a 15-0 technical fall over Cayden Westall at 144. Brady Larson won via forfeit at 150. Dylan Johnson won a 7-5 decision over James Fitzpatrick at 157 and Tayge Privett pinned Colten Walsh in 1:25 at 165.
The Bobcats got another win in the final match of the night. Gabriel Stern took the mat at 175 and pinned Eli Hutton in 1:29 to make the final score 58-18.
The results for the girls dual were not available on Tuesday night. There will be a full story on the girls in Thursday’s edition of the Register.
