SIOUX FALLS — The Brookings girls’ tennis team closed out the season over the weekend at the Class AA State Tournament at Tomar Park in Sioux Falls.
Anika Hooda was the No. 12 seed in flight one and she lost 6-1, 6-0 to Harrisburg’s McKenzie Vickery in her first match. She then was eliminated by Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Abigail Paulsen 10-6.
Muxi Tian was the No. 12 seed in flight two and she lost 6-0, 6-1 to Sioux Falls Lincoln’s Lily Statema in her first match. She then beat Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Kristen Schlueter 10-4 in the consolation bracket before falling 10-5 to Brandon Valley’s Sophia Menden.
Sanhita Tummala was the No. 12 seed in flight three and she lost 6-4, 6-0 to Aberdeen Central’s Chloe Ladner in her first match. She then beat Rapid City Central’s Lilly Demming 10-0 before losing 10-2 to O’Gorman’s Hadley Garry.
Alison Glover was the No. 14 seed in flight four and she lost 6-1, 6-0 to Rapid City Stevens’ Madison Marsh. She then was eliminated by Sioux Falls Washington’s Corinne Cahill 10-7.
Maya Gent was the No. 11 seed in flight five and she lost 6-0, 6-0 to Watertown’s Elly Dingsor. She then beat Rapid City Central’s Raegan Patton 10-1 before falling 10-4 to Sioux Falls Washington’s Emma Hensley.
Brielle Smetana was the No. 13 seed in flight six and she lost 6-1, 6-2 to O’Gorman’s Jude Houck. She then beat Sioux Falls Washington's Kinsley Stroh before losing 10-3 to Brandon Valley’s McKenzie Riley.
Hooda and Tummala were the No. 12 seed in first doubles flight and then lost 6-0, 6-1 to Rapid City Stevens’ Sylvie Mortimer and Madison Marsh. They then beat Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Abigail Paulsen and Hazel Pederson 10-2 before losing 10-5 to O’Gorman’s Lucy Koziara and Sarah Jamous.
Glover and Gent were the No. 14 seed in flight two and they lost 6-2, 6-0 to Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Kristen Schlueter and Sophia Heintz. They then lost 10-4 to Watertown’s Savannah Sovell and Grace Pesek.
Tian and Smetana were the No. 11 seed in flight three and lost 6-0, 6-0 to Sioux Falls Lincoln’s Angela Ge and Eleni Reynoza. They then beat Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Ava Skadsen and Nicole Marie Illieva 10-7 before falling 10-8 to Brandon Valley’s Olivia Ericsson and McKenzie Riley.
The Bobcats came in 12th as a team with 5.5 points. Rapid City Stevens won the tournament with 486.5 points.
