INDIANAPOLIS — South Dakota State’s Bennett Berge earned the No. 5 seed at 184 pounds as seedings and pairings for next week’s NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships were revealed Wednesday night.
Nine Jackrabbit wrestlers — the most in program history — qualified for the national tournament, which will be March 20-22 in Philadelphia.
A redshirt sophomore from Mantorville, Minn., Berge holds a 26-5 record on the year, highlighted by a third-place finish at the Big 12 tournament last weekend. He will face off with No. 28 Dennis Robin from West Virginia in his first-round matchup.
Cade DeVos received the 13 seed. The senior from Altoona, Iowa, holds a 19-7 record this year as he qualified for his fifth NCAA Tournament. He will go up against No. 20 Dan Braunagel from Illinois.
Tanner Jordan received an at-large bid to qualify for his third NCAA Tournament at 125 pounds, where he received the 23 seed. A returning All-American, Jordan holds a record of 23-8 and will go up against conference foe No. 10 Stevo Pulin.
Two-time qualifiers Zach Glazier, Cobe Siebrecht, and Derick Cardinal received the 14, 19, and 30 seeds at 197, 157 and 133 pounds, respectively.
Glazier, a sixth-year senior from Albert Lea, Minn., finished third at the Big 12 Championships at 197 pounds and sports a record of 16-6 this year. He received the 14 seed will match up with No. 19 Andy Smith from Virginia Tech.
Siebrecht, one of the three transfers from Iowa, finished as the runner-up at the Big 12 Championships at 157 pounds after upsetting No. 1 Cody Chittum on his way to the title match with a major decision win. He received the No. 19 seed and will go up against No. 14 Jude Swisher from Penn.
Cardinal, a junior from Forest Lake, Minn., qualified for his second NCAA Championships after finishing fifth at the Big 12 Championships. He holds a record of 18-14 this year. He will face off against No. 3 seed Nasir Bailey from Little Rock.
First-time qualifiers Julian Tagg, Drake Rhodes and Luke Rasmussen received the 18, 14, and 25 seeds, respectively. Tagg will face off with No. 15 Joseph Olivieri from Rutgers, Rhodes will take on No. 19 Jack Thomsen from UNI, and Rasmussen will take on No. 8 Luke Luffman from Illinois.
