PIERRE — Brooke Bohnenkamp of Pierre is the newest staff addition to the South Dakota Retailers Association. She’ll join the team as deputy executive director on May 27.
Bohnenkamp comes to the retailers association from Pierre, where she has spent the last decade leading communications, special projects, and the IT department for the city. Prior to that, Bohnenkamp spent several years working for the state of South Dakota and as a television news producer in both South Dakota and Iowa.
“I like to say that professionally I grew up in a newsroom, but I literally grew up in my dad’s hardware store,” said Bohnenkamp. “I’m excited to be part of an organization that allows me to blend my roots with the other skills I’ve picked up along the way. This is going to be great!”
Bohnenkamp will help lead the retailers association and direct communication for nearly 4,000 member-businesses.
“Brooke certainly has South Dakota savvy, but I’m most excited about the positive energy she’ll bring to the association and its membership,” said Nathan Sanderson, Retailers Association executive director.
“We pride ourselves on being a resource for businesses, and Brooke will enhance the value we provide our members.”
Bohnenkamp holds a degree in mass communication from the University of South Dakota and has graduated from the Poynter Institute, the Governor’s Leadership Program, and Leadership Pierre. Bohnenkamp is a Gettysburg native who lives in Pierre with her husband Josh Larson and their two children.
