BROOKINGS — Free concerts return to Brookings again this summer when the Brookings Area Community Band kicks off another season of performances later this month.
Due to renovation work at the Pioneer Park Bandshell, the community band will start their season performing at the Sylvan Theatre at South Dakota State University, and then will complete the second half of their concert series at the freshly restored site at Pioneer Park.
The season kicks off June 16 with, “A Tribute to the Great American Vacation,” a musical journey intended to evoke images of picturesque summer road trips.
Subsequent shows include “Kids in Capes: A Spotlight on Superheroes” on June 23; “Made in America” on June 30; “Echoes of the Past” on July 7; and “Broadway Comes to Brookings” on July 21. The June concerts will all take place at Sylvan Theatre, while the July performances are scheduled to return to Pioneer Park. All the shows are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., and in case of inclement weather the concerts will move indoors to the Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center and start at 7:45 p.m.
The community band will also be performing again this year during the annual Fourth of July parade as well as the Brookings Summer Arts Festival. For more information on the concerts or on how to join the band, contact Kathy Larsen at 605-695-0397.
