BROOKINGS — The Brookings Bandits made quick work of the Volga Legion baseball team on Tuesday night as the Bandits beat Volga 14-0 in five innings.
Brookings scored all 14 of its runs in the first two innings and 10 of them came in the first.
Tre Christopherson led off with a single and then stole second. He scored on a Cooper Schneider single and then Schneider came home on a Winston Plummer double to make it 2-0. Plummer scored on a Tane Friedrich double and Tyson Antonen scorched on an error to push the lead to 4-0.
Christopherson would hit Jay Harris and Talon Hyde home with a two-out single and then he and Breck Wilson scored on a Schneider single to make it 8-0. Plummer then came to the plate with Schneider on base and he hit one over the left field fence to make it a 10-run inning for the Bandits.
Antonen singled to lead off the bottom of the second and then Friedrich and Hyde each walked to load the bases up with no outs. Friedrich and Antonen would score on an error by the second baseman to make it 12-0. Harris later scored on a two-out single from Schneider and Christopherson came home as Schneider was caught in a run down between first and second to end the inning.
Volga had two baserunners and Brookings had one the rest of the way and the game ended in the fifth due to the 10-run inning.
Brookings had 10 hits. Schneider was 3-for-3 with five RBIs and Plummer was 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Christopherson was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Friedrich was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Antonen was 2-for-3 and Harris had two RBIs without a hit.
Volga had four hits. Ethan Axtell, Braden Danzeisen, Levi Loban and Kellon Tucker were each 1-for-2.
Nolan Wagner pitched the first four innings for the Bandits. He gave up three hits and had one strikeout and one walk. Plummer pitched the final inning and gave up one hit with no strikeouts or walks.
Brookings is now 10-13 and plays a doubleheader at Huron on Wednesday starting at 5 p.m.
