SIOUX FALLS — The Brookings Bombers White 13/14U team beat the Sioux Falls Chargers in a game that had 39 combined runs on Tuesday night.
Brookings scored 10 runs in the top of the seventh to pull away and win 24-15.
Each team scored a run in the first inning. Brookings scored on an inside the park home run from Hayden Smidt. The Chargers scored a run on a ground out.
Brooking scored five runs in the top of the second. Delton Brownell and Jaxson Neuharth eac scored on an error and then Lincoln Damm scored on a wild pitch. Lucas Kahler was then walked with the bases loaded and Kuddyer Baugher hit a sacrifice fly to make it 6-1.
The Chargers scored four runs in the bottom of the inning. The first two runs came from a single and then runs from a ground out and a wild pitch made it 6-5.
The Bombers extended the lead to 8-5 in the top of the third. Brownell scored on a wild pitch and Neuharth came home on a ground out from Landon Mosley.
Sioux Falls gained the lead with five runs in the bottom of the third. The runs came from an RBI single and two two-run singles to make it 10-8. A sacrifice fly in the fourth pushed the lead to 11-8.
Brookings regained the lead with four runs in the top of the fourth. Brownell hit an RBI single and then scored on a wild pitch. Warner Carroll scored on a passed ball and then Smidt hit an RBI single to make it 12-11.
Sioux Falls hit a two-run inside the park home run in the bottom of the fifth to go up 13-12. Baugher then hit an RBI double and Brownell hit an RBI triple to give Brookings a 14-13 lead in the top of the sixth.
Smidt then hit a two-run single for the first two runs in the seventh. He scored on a balk from the pitcher and then Kahler hit an RBI double to make it 18-13. Kahler scored on a wild pitch and then Baugher stole home. Hudson Vincent scored on a balk and then Beau Thompson came home on a wild pitch to make it 22-13. Damm scored on an error and Carroll scored home for the final runs of the inning.
Sioux Falls scored runs on a wild pitch and a balk in the final half inning to make the final score 24-15.
Brookings had 17 hits. Smidt was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and Brownell was 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Kahler and Baugher were each 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Carroll was 2-for-5 with an RBI and Mosley was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Damm and Thompson were each 1-for-4 and Derek Jordan was 2-for-4.
Brookings is now 8-2 and plays in the Sioux Falls Slam this weekend.
