YANKTON — The Brookings’ football team lost 14-7 to Yankton on Friday night.
The Bobcats fell into a 14-0 hole and were unable to come back in the second half.
Yankton got on the board with a 36-yard field goal from Kevin Ortiz with 4:36 left in the first quarter. Ortiz then hit a 39-yard field goal to make it 6-0 with 8:40 left in the first half. Tate Beste then found Owen Eidsness for an 11-yard touchdown. Beste then ran in the two-point conversion to make it 14-0 heading into halftime.
The Bobcats finally found the end zone early in the fourth quarter as Bergan Tetzlaff capped off a nearly nine-minute drive with a five-yard score. Brookings got the ball two more times in the fourth quarter, but was unable to put together another touchdown drive and fell 14-7.
No individual stats were provided for this game.
Brookings dropped 3-4 on the season and will play winless Douglas this upcoming Friday at 7 p.m. at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium in Brookings.
