BROOKINGS — The Brookings High School Marching Band delivered another strong performance at the Pursuit of Excellence competition in Marshall recently, earning a commendable second place behind the talented Brandon Valley Marching Band. The competition showcased some of the finest high school marching bands in the region, and BHS certainly held its own.
The BHS Band wowed the audience with their show titled “Writings on the Wall,” a captivating thematic performance that combines choreography, powerful music, and striking visual elements.
The band’s interpretation of the theme, which explores division, conflict, and the desire for change, resonated with both the judges and the crowd, earning them high marks.
Director Isaac McMahon expressed immense pride in his students. “The dedication and hard work that band members put in this past week showed in their performance,” he said. “We were in a tough class of competition, but our students gave it their all and left everything on the field.”
The event drew a large audience, with fans and families traveling from various communities to support their local bands.
The energetic atmosphere was palpable as bands showcased their talents, with BHS’s performance being a standout moment of the day.
The Brookings High School Marching Band competed again on Sept. 28 at the Big Sioux Review in Brandon.
As they prepared for this next challenge, McMahon is optimistic. “Each performance teaches us a lot, and we’re excited to hit the field again in Brandon,” he said.
The band will also perform for the community at the upcoming Homecoming events, including the parade and football game.
Be sure to catch their homecoming halftime performance, as it may be the final home show of the season.
