SIOUX FALLS — The Brookings Rangers boys’ varsity came from behind on Friday night to beat Sioux Falls West 4-3 at Sioux Falls Furniture Mart Arena.
The Flyers led 2-0 after the first period. Hayden Gorra put Sioux Falls West on the board with a goal six minutes into the game. He was assisted by Ashton Eining and James Shea. Shea then scored a goal of his own five minutes later and he was assisted by Eining and Alexander Carlson.
The Rangers answered with three goals in the second period. Cade Zweber made it 2-1 with an unassisted goal just under four minutes into the period. Waylon Carroll then tied things up with 10:24 left in the second and he was assisted by Cody Jacobson. Parker Nielsen gave the Rangers a 3-2 lead with a power play goal with 3:11 left in the period. He was assisted by Tre Christopherson and Cooper Deatherage.
The lead didn’t last long in the third period as the Fyers tied things up just over two minutes into the period. Carson Edwards put one into the back of the net for Sioux Falls West and he was assisted by Jackson Breuer. It took until the final minute of play for the Rangers to score the game-winning goal. Maxten Jensen found Talon Hyde with 42 seconds left and he put it into the back of the net. Brookings then held Sioux Falls West off in the final 42 seconds to secure the win.
Brookings had a 35-23 advantage in shots. Ryder Anderson was in net for the Rangers and made 20 saves.
The Rangers are now 12-4 and are in third place in the South Dakota Hockey Association standings. Brookings has three more weekends of games before the state tournament in March.
