WATERTOWN — The Brookings Swimming Club opened its 2024-25 winter season by competing in the Ghouls in the Pool Meet at the Watertown Indoor Pool on Nov. 3.
Seven BSC swimmers claimed first place in their respective events, and 13 placed in the top three in at least one event.
The BSC will host its first home meet of the season on Saturday and Sunday at Brookings High School.
Edith and Amelia Meland each won first place in two different events. Edith Meland competed in the 6U division and won the 25-yard freestyle with a time of 25.93 seconds and the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 1:00.03.
Amelia Meland competed in the age 9-10 division and won the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 40.19 seconds and the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 33.69 seconds.
Amelia Meland also picked up a second-place finish in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 39.90 seconds and Edith Meland finished third in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 1:11.04.
Jane Meland finished first in the age 7-8 division’s 25-yard backstroke race with a time of 21.07 seconds. She also finished second in the 50-yard fly with a time of 53.67 seconds and third in the 25-yard freestyle with a time of 19.27 seconds.
Carmen Kurtenbach competed in the age 9-10 division and won the 25-yard freestyle race with a time of 18.55 seconds. She also finished third with a time of 24.36 seconds in the 25-yard backstroke.
Kjersten Johnson finished in first place in the age 11-12 division’s 50-yard breaststroke race with a time of 36.23 seconds.
McKinley Schwab also had a strong afternoon competing in the age 13-14 division. Schwab finished second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.83 seconds and picked up three third place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle (59.46), the 100-yard backstroke (1:08.30) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:20.52).
Kendall Schmit finished in second place in the age 13-14 division’s 100-yard breaststroke race with a time of 1:20.52.
Michael Julius earned a pair of first-place finishes in the age 11-12 division. Julius finished first in the 25-yard freestyle with a time of 17.85 seconds and in the 25-yard backstroke with a time of 22.40 seconds.
Winter Anderson also scored a first-place finish in the age 9-10 division’s 25-yard backstroke race with a time of 27.58 seconds.
Wyatt deBlonk finished in the top three in four different races in the age 11-12 division. deBlonk finished second in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 33.63 seconds and finished third in the 50-yard fly (33.43 seconds), the 50-yard breaststroke (41.20 seconds) and the 50-yard freestyle (28.83 seconds).
Hudson Rausch finished third with a time of 21.07 seconds in the age 7-8 division’s 25-yard freestyle race.
Wesley Hanson-McComb finished third with a time of 46.02 in the age 9-10 division’s 50-yard breaststroke.
Carter Lucas Wherley finished third in the 25-yard backstroke with a time of 28.76 seconds.
