BROOKINGS — The Brookings softball team picked up another victory on Saturday as the Bobcats beat Mitchell 4-1 at the Southbrook Softball Complex.
The Bobcat pitching staff were the stars of the game. Tess Burns pitched five innings and gave up one earned run on two hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk. Ella Pysk pitched the final two innings and gave up no runs and no hits while striking out four batters and walking none.
Brookings scored three runs in the first inning. Layla Erickson and Kymber Buys hit back-to-back singles with one out. Erickson then scored on a double from Burns and Buys came home on a ground out from Grace Romsa. Ramsie Hinricher then hit an RBI single to make it 3-0.
Burns then led off the bottom of the third with a home run as she drove the ball over teh center field fence. Mitchell’s lone run came in the fifth as R Jennings hit a home run to right field.
Brookings had nine hits in the win. Burns was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Hinricher was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Romsa was 1-for-3 with an RBI and Erickson was 2-for-3. Buys was 2-for-4 and Addy Bortnem was 1-for-3.
Brookings is now 11-5 this season. The Bobcats will close out the regular season this week. They’ll host Sioux Falls Lincoln on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and then play at Sioux Falls Jefferson on Thursday at 6 p.m.
