BROOKINGS — The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary of George Dokken No. 2118 youth program has several opportunities for students.

The "Red, White and Blue" program is for students interested in music. The second opportunity is for students who enjoy the arts of drawing or painting.

The "Red, White and Blue" program is for kindergarten through 12th grade students who are interested in singing. The premise for the competition is to sing the "Star Spangled Banner" in any music genre without changing any of the words.

The competition has a grade school level and a high school level. The deadline to submit their entry on YouTube is March 31. The local chairperson for this competition is Jan Olson.

Olson is also the contact person for the "Illustrating America" program. The competition is based on how you picture America through your art. "Illustrating America" has three age categories. K-2nd grade; third-fifth grade and sixth-eighth grade.

Entries are to be 8x10 innches, but no larger than 18x24 inches. The deadline for this competition is March 31.

For further information regarding contest rules or entering, contact Olson at jano@mchsi.com or call her at 605-695-0377. This competition is open to all students in the qualifying age groups.
