Bullets beat Watertown in final game of season

Brookings ends year with 13-7 victory

RAPID CITY — The Brookings Bullets 16U baseball team picked up a win in its final game of the season, defeating Watertown 13-7 on Saturday afternoon.

With the Bullets also losing to Rapid City Post 320 15-0 on Friday, the Bullets finished the year with a record of 5-36-1.

Friday

The Bullets were held to one hit as they fell in their second game of the tournament on Friday.

Rapid City scored four times in the first inning, six times in the second inning and five times in the third.

Connor Jones allowed 13 runs (eight earned) on six hits and six walks with a pair of strikeouts over two innings. Tre Sonnenburg allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit and three walks and a strikeout while getting one out in the third inning.

Wes Van Ede had the lone hit for the Bullets and went 1-for-1. Parker Witte stole a base. Sonnenburg drew a walk.

Saturday

Brookings 13, Watertown 7

Jones drove in five runs to help Brookings earn a win in its final game of the season on Saturday afternoon.

The Bullets set the tone with a six-run second inning that began with a walk by Sonnenburg. Sutton Schneider and Rylan Hesser each singled to load the bases before a run scored on an error and two runs scored on another error to give Brookings a 3-0 lead.

Camden Reicks drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk, Parker Nielsen delivered an RBI double and Sonnenburg drove in a run with a single to make it 6-0.

Brookings added two more runs in the fourth courtesy of RBI singles by Jones and Sonnenburg before Watertown scored a run in the fourth and fifth innings. The Bullets kept producing at the plate, however with a run on an error in the top of the sixth and an inside-the-park grand slam by Jones in the top of the seventh.

Jones went 3-for-4 with a walk, a home run and two runs scored to go with his five RBI. Sonnenburg went 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI. Schneider went 2-for-3 with two walks. Nilsen went 1-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI. Hesser went 1-for-3 with two walks and a run scored. Reicks went 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Schneider started for Brookings, allowing four earned runs on five hits and seven walks with seven strikeouts. Charlie Richter pitched one inning, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
