RENNER — The Brookings Bullets 16U team split a doubleheader with Renner on Tuesday night.
The Bullets won game one 10-3 before falling 10-6 in game two. Brookings is now 7-11 and plays a doubleheader at Tea on June 24 starting at 5 p.m.
Brookings scored nine runs in the final three innings to pull away in game one.
The Bullets led 1-0 at the end of the first as Jace Jaacks scored on a steal of home.
Renner then scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth but the Bullets got one run back in the top of the fifth.
Brookings extended the lead to 9-2 in the top of the sixth. Aiden Adelman came home on a single from Grant Horn. Bode TeKrony then scored on a wild pitch and Horn and Eli Ellsworth stole home to make it a seven-run game.
Renner scored on a steal of home in the bottom of the sixth but Brookings pushed the lead back to six seven in the top of the seventh when Lincoln Helmbolt stole home in the top of the seventh. Renner put two runners on in the bottom of the seventh but was not able to score any runs.
The Bullets had three hits. Horn was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Rylan Hesser was 1-for-1.
Renner turned the tables in game two as they scored seven runs in the final two innings to pull away.
Brookings broke a 0-0 tie in the top of the second as TeKrony hit Camden Reicks home with a single.
Renner gained the lead in the bottom of the inning. They scored runs on an RBI double and an RBI single to make it 2-1 heading into the third.
The Bullets answered with four runs in the top of the third. Horn hit Adelman home with a double to tie the game and then Helmbolt scored on a steal of home to make it 3-2. Hesser then hit a two-run single to push the lead to 5-2.
An RBI single from Helmbolt in the top of the fourth made it 6-2. Renner then hit an RBI single in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 6-3.
Runs from a fielder’s choice in the fifth and a ground out made it 6-5 heading into the sixth. Renner then hit an RBI single bottom of the sixth to tie the game and then hit a grand slam to win the game.
The Bullets had six hits in the loss. Hesser was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Helmbolt was 3-for-3 with an RBI. TeKrony was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Horn was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
