Carol Lynne (Bork) Johnson, born Nov. 12, 1950, in Aberdeen, SD, passed away on Aug. 17, 2024.
She was the beloved daughter of Les and Bonney Bork, both of whom preceded her in death. Carol is survived by her two brothers, Robert and Colin Bork, and her daughter, Shauna Nicole Johnson of San Jose, CA. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Olivia Sofia, and twins Jesus “Chuy” and Noah Johnson Carrasco.
Carol graduated from Brookings High School in 1969 and later pursued studies at South Dakota State University. Her career spanned decades in the printing industry, where she excelled as a proof editor at Pacific Litho in San Francisco and later transitioned working in a family law office. Known for her fierce dedication to social justice, she was a vocal supporter of women’s rights and a compassionate foster parent to three children.
Carol’s creative spirit flourished in her many hobbies. She was an avid reader, a talented artist, and a costume designer for local theater productions. Her Halloween pumpkins were legendary, earning her the title of “Pumpkin Queen.” An enthusiastic bird watcher, she was an active member of the National Audubon Society and had a profound love for cats, taking in many rescues throughout her life.
Her kindness, intelligence, and unique personality made her a cherished friend and confidante to many. As Shauna beautifully put it, “You were magic. You were the stars and the moon.” In her own words, Carol embodied the spirit of adventure: “When I took the leap I had faith I would find a net; Instead, I learned I could fly.”
