College golf: Jackrabbits in seventh after first day of K-State Wildcat Invitational

MANHATTAN, Kan. — The South Dakota State men’s golf team sits in seventh place following the first two rounds of the K-State Wildcat Fall Invitational.

The Jackrabbit squad is led by Luke Honner, who tallied matching 70 (-2) scores over the two rounds Sunday (70-70--140, -4). The sophomore’s first round featured six birdies, then followed that up with three birdies and two eagles in round two. Honner is in a five-way tie for ninth place with 18 holes left to be played.

Tyler Seeling is in a tie for 21st place with a 144 (70-74; +2). Jonah Dohrer is one shot back with a 145 (73-72; +1) and is tied for 24th place. Ty Kretz is in a tie for 39th (73-74--147; +3) and Bryson Mercier is tied for 50th with a 148 (72-76; +4).

Host Kansas State is 19-under as a team and hits atop the leaderboard. Grand Canyon’s Matthew Pennington, playing as an individual, leads the player standings.
