VOLGA — The Sioux Valley girls’ basketball team got back in the win column on Friday night as the Cossacks beat Flandreau 60-46 at the Cossack Center.
Sioux Valley, who had lost two in-a-row, led 22-16 after the opening quarter. The Cossacks pushed the lead to double digits early in the second quarter and then led 40-30 at halftime. It was a defensive battle in the third and the Fliers cut the lead to 45-38 heading into the third. However, Sioux Valley put the game away in the fourth as it outscored Flandreau 15-8 in the final frame.
The Cossacks shot 40% from the field and were 11-of-32 from three. Amari Ward led Sioux Valley with 18 points. Kailey Cradduck had 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Liberty Trygstad had 14 points and seven assists. Keyra Kruse had a double-double with 10 points and 17 boards.
The Fliers shot 34.7% from the field and were 4-of-14 from beyond the arc. Morgan Sheppard had 15 points to lead Flandreau. Sadie Iott had 14 points and Hannah Krull had six points and four rebounds.
Sioux Valley had a 34-22 advantage in rebounds. The Cossacks had 16 turnovers and the Fliers had 13. Sioux Valley was 5-of-6 at the free throw line and Flandreau was 8-of-12.
The Cossacks improved to 12-4 and host Deuel on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Flandreau dropped to 12-5 and hosts De Smet on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
