Cossacks run over Watchdogs, 46-6

VOLGA — Sioux Valley scored all of its points in the first half on Friday night and came away with a 46-6 win over Beresford at Cossack Field.

The Cossacks scored on every possession in the first half. Mitchell Guthmiller got the scoring going with a 72-yard touchdown run just over two minutes into the game. A minute and 50 seconds later Logan Mahn ran to the end zone from 56 yards out and Guthmiller ran in the two-point conversion to make it 14-0. Mohn scored again, this time from nine yards out, and Guthmiller ran in another two-point conversion to make it 22-0 heading into the second quarter.

Braden Danzeisen got in on the scoring three minutes into the second quarter as he scored on a 14-yard run. Wyatt Hardt ran in the two-point conversion to make it 30-0. Hardt then scored from 18 yards out and Mohn ran in the two-point conversion with just over five minutes left in the half. Hardt then threw an 85-yard touchdown to Guthmiller and Mohn scored on the two-point conversion to make it 46-0 at the half.

The lone score of the second half was a seven-yard pass from Ashton Oberle to Hayden Schilling. The two-point conversion was no good and the final was 46-6.

Sioux Valley outgained Beresford 539-112. 440 of the Cossacks’ yards came on the ground. Guthmiller had 205 yards on 16 carries and Mohn had 95 yards on seven carries. Brendin Moe had 51 yards on seven carries. Hardt’s only completion was the 85-yard touchdown to Guthmiller.

The Cossack defense held Beresford to 11 yards rushing. Johnnie Vermeulen had six tackles to lead Sioux Valley. Westin Pitts and Damon Uecker each had four tackles. Mohn and Wyatt Nelson each had an interception.

The Cossacks moved to 4-3 on the season. They will close out the regular season next week at No. 1 ranked Elk Point-Jefferson.
