The Sioux Valley girls’ basketball team split a pair of games over the weekend. The Cossacks beat Lakota Tech on Friday night and then fell to No. 1 ranked Sioux Falls Christian on Saturday night.

Cossacks split weekend games

VOLGA – The Sioux Valley girls’ basketball team split a pair of games over the weekend. The Cossacks beat Lakota Tech on Friday night and then fell to No. 1 ranked Sioux Falls Christian on Saturday night.

Sioux Valley is now 11-3 and plays at Dakota Valley on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Friday

Sioux Valley 71, Lakota Tech 53

The Cossacks outscored the Tatanka in each of the first three quarters.

Sioux Valley led 18-14 after the first quarter and then took a 35-27 lead into halftime. The Cossacks then outscored the Tatanka 24-10 in the third quarter and had a 59-37 lead heading into the fourth. Lakota Tech outscored Sioux Valley 16-12 in the final quarter.

Sioux Valley shot 45.5% from the field and was 14-of-32 from three. The Cossacks had all five starters score in double figures. Talya Vincent led the way with 18 points. Kailey Cradduck had 17 points and seven rebounds. Amari Ward had 12 points and Keyra Kruse and Liberty Trygstad each had 10 points. Kruse had six rebounds and Trygstad had five rebounds and seven assists.

Lakota Tech shot 35.6% from the field and was 6-of-24 from three. Shania Ferguson had 26 points to lead the Tatanka. Isabelle Shangreaux had nine points and Lizzie Robinson had six points and 11 rebounds.

Sioux Valley had 31 rebounds and Lakota Tech had 26. The Cossacks had 22 turnovers and the Tatanka had 18. Sioux Valley was 7-of-8 at the free throw line and Lakota Tech was 5-of-13.

Saturday

Sioux Falls Christian 60, Sioux Valley 42

A rough third quarter put the game out of reach for the Cossacks on Saturday night.

The Cossacks led 10-8 after the first quarter. SFC then outscored Sioux Valley 17-10 in the second and led 25-20 heading into the halftime. The Chargers then had a 25-7 advantage in the third and pushed the lead to 50-27 at the end of the quarter. Sioux Valley outscored SFC 15-10 in the final frame.

Sioux Valley shot 35.9% from the field and was 4-of-15 from three. Kruse had 21 points and five rebounds. Trygstad had eight points and Ward had six points.

SFC shot 39% from the field and was 5-of-25 from three. The Chargers were led by Lezlei Setzer who had 17 points and nine rebounds. Ruth Dvoracek had 14 points and eight rebounds. Avery Reitz had nine points.

The Chargers had a 28-18 advantage in rebounds. Sioux Valley had 19 turnovers and SFC had 15. The Cossacks were 10-of-13 at the free throw line and the Chargers were 9-of-10.
