Dar Algra, age 70, of Madison, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
There will be a visitation from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30 at Rustand-Weiland Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, at First Reformed Church in Volga with Pastor Gary Mulder officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Darwin Lee Algra was born August 20, 1953, in Volga, SD, to Alfred and Evelyn (VanHoepen) Algra. He attended country school through fourth grade and then later graduated from Sioux Valley High School in 1971. He attended Stewart’s School of Cosmetology for one year and then worked at one of their salons for two years. He moved to Rapid City for a brief time before returning to Madison where he owned and operated Dar’s Salon of Hair Design until his passing.
Dar was a member of First Congregational Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota Cosmetology Association, and Madison Lions Club. He volunteered at “Look Good, Feel Better” through the American Cancer Society, and Prairie Village caring for the flowers and Pumpkin Patch.
Dar is survived by his two sisters, Nancy (Dan) Parriott of Milbank, SD, and Beth (Rollyn) Clapp of Volga, SD; five nieces and nephews, Jennifer (Shawn) Chura of Fairbanks, AK, Melissa (Jason) Sackreiter of Milbank, SD, Nathanael Clapp, Nickolas Clapp, and Hattie Clapp all of Volga, SD; six great-nieces and nephews: Ryann and Elah Chura; Dillen and Nollen Sheeley; and Cooper and Maddox Sackreiter; two aunts, Adriana Kleinjan of Volga, SD, Wilma (Ron) Bjerke of Brookings, SD; one uncle, Harold (Carol) VanHoepen of Volga, SD and several cousins; partner, Kelly Raethz of Madison, SD; bonus children, Kari (James) Booze, Chris (Emily) Raethz, and Philip (Nicole) Raethz; nine grandchildren and two great-grandsons;
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Douglas; aunts, uncles and cousins.
