David Alfred Andrawis, 45, left this world on Jan. 28, 2025, in true David fashion — quietly, without a fuss, and without warning.
Born on Oct. 11, 1979, in Alexandria, Egypt, David made his first big move at just three weeks old, when his family relocated to Brookings, South Dakota. He graduated from Brookings High School in 1998 and earned a master’s degree in computer science from South Dakota State University in 2007. A brilliant mind, David built a successful career as a full-stack software developer.
With a unique blend of Egyptian and Sudanese roots, David had a personality as rich and layered as his heritage. He moved through life with effortless style, a sharp wit, and an unwavering loyalty to the people he loved. He never missed a birthday, a family gathering, or an opportunity to make someone laugh. His sense of humor was unmatched, generously sharing his light-hearted spirit, acceptance, and love with anyone he met. His kindness was endless and his presence irreplaceable.
David lived life on his own terms — private, laid-back, and deeply thoughtful. He was the guy who quietly took care of things behind the scenes, never seeking the spotlight but always making life brighter for those around him.
He carried himself with a calm wisdom, a deep appreciation for music, and a quiet yet powerful love for his family.
David’s passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but we find comfort in knowing he is reunited with his father, likely sharing good music, laughter, and inside jokes that only they would understand.
David was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Alfred Andrawis, and uncles, Amazis and Maurice. He is survived by his mother Dr. Madeleine Andrawis, brother Danny Andrawis, sister Mary Andrawis-Refila, brother-in-law John Refila, nieces Sophia and Mikayla, and nephew Benjamin Refila. He is also survived by his uncles Victor Andrawis and Fikry Younan Andrawis, and aunts Helen, Iris, and Suzy Andrawis and Cecile Andraos-Selim.
The family will gather to celebrate David’s life, honoring the joy and goodness he brought to the world.
