It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edith (Kraft) Weydert, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away peacefully on Feb. 13, in Münster, Germany.
Edith was born on Aug. 30, 1937, in Heilsberg, Germany, to Hugo and Magdalena (Dove) Krobs. She was the sixth child of eight. She grew up during WWII and suffered many hardships during that time. Maybe that is why she became a woman of unwavering strength.
Edith attended school in Germany to be a kindergarten teacher. She taught herself how to read, write, and speak English. She became a pen pal with Wilbur Kraft and moved to the United States in 1966. They were married on June 18, 1966, in Brookings, SD.
Edith was dedicated to raising her family. She was also a daycare provider for many families in the Brookings area. She had strong faith and was an active member of Saint Thomas More Catholic Church.
Edith had a passion for life. Whether it was gardening, cooking, reading, or exercising, she found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was a good cook and embraced her German heritage. She would make sauerbraten, dumplings, red cabbage, Kaiserschmarren, schnitzel, and sauerkraut to name a few. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing her extra produce with everyone.
Edith remained in close contact with her family and friends throughout Germany. She reconnected with a friend during a visit in the summer of 2007 which led her to move back to Germany in 2009. She married Peter Weydert on May 12, 2009, in Wesel Germany.
As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate her life and the countless memories she leaves behind. Edith touched the lives of many and will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Christine (Arlo) Morris and Carolyn (Jason) Ball; stepdaughter, Susanne (Hans-Jürgen) Weydert-Rawe; stepson, Stefan Weydert (and family); grandchildren, Gillian Morris, Mason Morris, Linus Weydert, and Lenia Weydert; sister, Erika (Freddy) Senf; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Wilbur Kraft and Peter Weydert; one son, Stefan Kraft; 4 brothers, Alfred Krobs, Hugo Krobs, Alfons Krobs, and Gerhard Krobs; two sisters, Hildegard Meyer and Margarete Smalla.
A funeral service will be held on March 10, 2025, in Wesel, Germany, where family and friends will gather to pay their respects and celebrate the life of Edith.
Rest in peace, Edith. Your love, kindness, and strength will remain with us forever. You have left an enduring mark on our hearts, and we are forever grateful for the time we had with you.
