Flandreau girls, nine area runners qualify for State

GARRETSON – The Flandreau girls’ cross country team and nine other area runners qualified for the State Tournament at the Region 2A Cross Country Meet on Wednesday at River Ridge Golf Course. 

Girls

Flandreau qualified as a team after the Fliers came in third with 46 points. Faith Wiese came in second to lead the way after finishing in 17:27.65. Calla Wiese came in 10th (19:27.97) and Kiley Westberry finished in 16th (20:22.57). Tenley LeBrun came in 18th (20:58.29) and Genesis Martinez Soto came in 31st (22:33.55). Willow Stephens finished in 37th (23:30.95).

Sioux Valley finished in fourth with 46 points. The Cossacks had four runners qualify. Maci Licht came in 12th (20:02.67) and Amia Ward came in 15th (20:18.05). Talya Vincent finished in 17th (20:41.20) and Lillie Schmit came in 20th (21:08.73). The other two runners for Sioux Valley were Ava Gatzke, who came in 26th (22:00.46), and Amya Ward, who finished in 40th (24:49.03).

Sioux Falls Christian (13) and West Central (43) also qualified as teams. Sioux Falls Christian’s Ellie Maddox won the meet with a time of 17:15.98.

Boys

Carson Wosje and Tyrus Schulz qualified for State on the boys’ side for Sioux Valley. Wosje finished in eighth place with a time of 17:00.60. Schulz came in 19th with a time of 17:55.46.

Dubhlainn Vermeulen came in 26th (18:38.18) and Levi Axtell came in 30th (18:50.57). Jackson Hestermann finished in 33rd (18:55.47) and Bret Milton came in 43rd (19:53.88).

Flandreau had two boys qualify in Logan Kontz and Nathaniel Hobbie. Kontz came in 15th (17:22.64) and Hobbie finished in 16th (17:23.40). Elkton-Lake Benton’s Adam Kinner qualified after coming in 17th (17:24.68).

The Cossacks came in fourth with 80 points. Sioux Falls Christian (17), Garretson (51) and West Central (66) qualified for State as a team. Sioux Falls Christian’s Wesley Lyon won the meet with a time of 16:02.79.
