The Flandreau softball team improved to 3-4 on Thursday night as the Fliers swept a doubleheader against Milbank. They won the first game 7-0 and the second game 19-7.

Flandreau sweeps doubleheader against Milbank

FLANDREAU – The Flandreau softball team improved to 3-4 on Thursday night as the Fliers swept a doubleheader against Milbank. They won the first game 7-0 and the second game 19-7.

Game One
Flandreau 7, Milbank 0 (5 inn.)
The Fliers scored two runs in the bottom of the first. Both came on a triple from Oiliva Peters.

Neither team would score in the next inning and Flandreau extended its lead to 7-0 in the third. Sadie Iott led off the inning with an inside the park home run. Addy Hammer reached on a single and Jacey Sundermeyer reached on an error. Both came around to score on a single from Peters. Peters came home on a Julie Pitsenberger single and Pitsenberger later scored on a ground out.

Peters was 2-for-2 with four RBIs. Iott was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Pitsenberger was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Hammer was 3-for-3 and Nora Hamilton had an RBI.

Peters pitched the first inning and gave up no runs and no hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Elodie Amdahl pitched four innings and gave up no runs and one hit with eight strikeouts and four walks.

Game Two
Flandreau 19, Milbank 7 (5 inn.)
The Fliers jumped out to a 14-0 lead and were able to win the game via the 10-run rule.

They scored nine runs in the first inning. Hammer hit an RBI single and she and Sundermeyer each scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0. Hailieanne Schepel then hit an RBI single and Hamilton hit a two-run single to make it 6-0. Diamond Roy followed with an RBI triple and Sundermeyer hit an RBI double to make it 9-0.

Flandreau added four more runs in the second. Hamilton and Schepel scored on a dropped third strike and Iott hit a two-run bomb to make it 13-0. Iott hit another home run in the fourth and that made it 14-0.

Milbank scored its first runs of the day in the bottom of the fourth and the Bulldogs cut the lead 14-4. However, Flandreau answered with five runs in the top of the fifth. Makenzie Gregory and Hamilton hit back-to-back RBI singles. A run then scored on a fielder’s choice and two more scored on ground outs to make it 19-4 heading into the bottom of the inning.

Milbank was able to score three more runs in the fifth but that was it and the game was called due to the 10-run rule.

Iott was 4-of-5 with four RBIs. Hammer was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Diamond Roy was 1-for-3 with two RBIS. Hamilton was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Schepel and Gregory were each 1-for-2 with an RBI. Tricia Roy was 1-for-1 with an RBI.

Hamilton pitched all five innings for the Fliers and gave up seven runs, three earned, on seven hits with 10 strikeouts and six walks.
