Floyd A. Carson, age 93, passed away Monday, Aug. 12, 2024, at Dow Rummel Village in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Sep. 7 at 11a.m. in Britton, SD at the United Methodist Church with Rev. Lorah Houser Jankord officiating.
Visitation will be at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings on Friday, September 6 from 5 – 7 p.m., as well as one hour preceding the funeral service.
Floyd Andrew Carson was born Sept. 26, 1930 in Britton, SD, to Howard and Ellen Carson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Langford Methodist Church. Floyd graduated from Langford High School in 1948 and attended South Dakota State University.
On Feb. 7, 1954, he married Darlene Krakow at the United Methodist Church in Aberdeen. They lived in San Marcos, TX and Junction City, KS while he served in the Army as a helicopter mechanic. Following his discharge in 1956, they moved to a farm near Langford.
Floyd farmed the land there until his retirement in the fall of 1994. He moved to Stoneybrook Assisted Living in Brookings in 2020 and to Dow Rummel Village in 2024.
Floyd maintained membership in Tinta Masonic Lodge (72 years), Scottish Rite, and the Yelduz Shrine. He served as a member of the Langford Development Corp and past director of DaMar Farmers Elevator. He also served as a Langford School Board member.
Floyd and Darlene enjoyed retirement living at Venture Out in Mesa, AZ during the winters. He especially enjoyed ballroom and line dancing. After Darlene’s passing in 2003, he took up bike riding and joined the Solos group at Venture Out. At age 74, he rode bike in Iowa’s RAGBRAI, completing over half the miles each day. Floyd enjoyed many coffee outings in Langford and Arizona, providing hours of good fellowship with numerous friends.

Floyd is survived by his children, Loren (Pat) Carson, Phoenix, AZ, Craig (Kim) Carson, Brookings, SD and Natalie (Jeff) Musser, Sioux Falls, SD; Grandchildren Corey (Brittany) Carson, Casey (Andrea) Carson, Andrew (Melissa) Carson, Justin (Lizzy) Carson, Aaron Musser, and Noelle Musser, and eight great-grandchildren.
