SIOUX FALLS — South Dakota State outfielder Cael Frost was named Tuesday as the Summit League Player of the Year, becoming the first Jackrabbit baseball player to receive the award. Frost led a contingent of seven Jackrabbits to be honored as all-Summit League selections, including five first-team honorees.

In addition, Frost was selected as the Summit League Newcomer of the Year. All awards were determined by a vote among the league’s six head coaches.

A junior outfielder from Gilbertville, Iowa, Frost hit a Summit-best 13 home runs and compiled a .732 slugging percentage in 28 league games while twice earning Summit League Player of the Week honors. He homered in nine of the 10 Summit League series the Jackrabbits played while batting .321 (36-for-112), driving in 33 runs and scoring 35 times.

Overall, Frost hit a school-record 21 home runs during the 2024 season and collected 59 RBIs with a .343 batting average and a .742 slugging percentage. He was the lone Jackrabbit player to play in and start all 49 games.
Frost played his first two collegiate seasons at Kirkwood Community College (Iowa) before transferring to SDSU.

Moving up to the first team in 2024 for the Jackrabbits were second baseman Cade Stuff and designated hitter Dawson Parry.

Stuff, a senior from Great Falls, Montana, hit a team-leading .366 (37-for-101) in conference play with a home run, 26 RBIs and seven doubles. A second-team all-league selection a season ago, Stuff also contributed a .444 on-base percentage in league games.

Parry teamed with Frost to form the top offensive tandem in the league, recording eight home runs and 37 RBIs in league play. The senior from Highland, Utah, also posted a .321 batting average and tallied 10 doubles en route to a .633 slugging percentage.

Previously, Parry was a second-team all-Summit League honoree in 2022 and an honorable mention selection in 2023.

Rounding out the first-team selections for the Jackrabbits was senior pitcher Nic McCay. Previously a second-team honoree in 2019 and 2022, McCay missed three of the last four seasons due to arm injuries before returning in 2024 to post a 4-2 record in 10 league starts with a 3.51 earned run average.

A three-time Summit League Pitcher of the Week this season, McCay compiled 79 strikeouts in 59 innings and held the opposition to a .219 batting average.

Earning second-team selections were senior outfielder Reece Anderson and redshirt freshman first baseman Luke Luskey.

Anderson, a native of Johnston, Iowa, batted .267 (31-for-116) with four home runs and 16 RBIs in Summit League games. He was an honorable mention selection to the all-league squad in 2023.

Luskey enjoyed a strong second half to the league season, ranking second on the team with a .344 batting average (32-for-93) in Summit games and posting a .591 slugging percentage after hitting six home runs and five doubles with 22 RBIs. The Green Isle, Minnesota, native also played well in the field as he did not commit an error in 129 defensive chances.
