SIOUX FALLS — The Brookings Bobcats hot stretch hit a snag against O’Gorman on Saturday night, but they’re excited for Homecoming week as they will host their “Little Bobcats” night when they host Huron on Thursday night.
The Bobcats entered Saturday night’s game with the Knights winners of seven of their past eight matches but couldn’t keep that momentum going. O’Gorman won the first set of the match 25-18 and took a 2-0 lead after winning the second set 25-8.
Although Brookings regrouped in the third set, it wasn’t enough as O’Gorman closed out the match with a 25-20 victory.
“They served really well and our serve receive struggled in all three sets,” Brookings head coach Erinn Thomas said. “We had a good fight in the third set but we just came up short.”
The loss to O’Gorman leads into a big week for the Bobcats as they have two big ESD contests on the road at Mitchell on Tuesday night and returning home against Huron on Thursday.
Thursday’s match will carry some excitement for Brookings as their middle school and elementary players will be in attendance to see the Bobcats take on the Tigers with an autograph session after the game.
“We are so excited to host our younger teams,” Thomas said. “Giving them an opportunity to come to a home match, be in the gym with our fans and meet the players after is so special and gives them a chance to see themselves in our players.”
