South Dakota State fell behind in the first quarter against Georgia Tech on Saturday night and the Jackrabbits weren’t able to recover as they lost to the Yellow Jackets 71-57 in the first game of the Hawaii North Shore Showcase.

LAIE, Hawaii — South Dakota State fell behind in the first quarter against Georgia Tech on Saturday night and the Jackrabbits weren’t able to recover as they lost to the Yellow Jackets 71-57 in the first game of the Hawaii North Shore Showcase.
SDSU (3-2) trailed 18-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Jacks cut the lead to 20-14 but then Georgia Tech (5-0) went on a 13-0 run to push the lead to 19 at the midway point of the second quarter. The Yellow Jackets then led 39-28 at halftime.
Georgia Tech pushed the lead to 55-37 with 2:38 left in the third and led 56-42 at the end of the quarter. SDSU opened the final quarter with an 8-2 run to make it 58-50 with 6:22 left in the game. However, Georgia Tech then scored six straight points to make it a 15-point game with 4:37 left and that put things out of reach for the Jacks.
SDSU shot 38.3% from the field and was 4-of-20 from three. Haleigh Timmer and Brooklyn Meyer led the Jacks with 12 points each. Brooklyn Meyer also had seven rebounds. Katie Vasecka and Mesa Byom each had nine points and Paige Meyer had seven points.
The Yellow Jackets outrebounded the Jacks 48-39. SDSU had 10 turnovers and Georgia Tech had seven.
Georgia Tech shot 38.2% from the field and was 9-of-27 from three. Tonie Morgan had 21 points and nine rebounds to lead the Yellow Jackets. Dani Carnegie had 16 points and eight rebounds.
SDSU will look to bounce back on Tuesday when it takes on Oregon in the final game of the showcase. Tip off between the Jacks and Ducks is scheduled for 6 p.m. Central time.
