OMAHA, Neb. — Creighton scored the only run of the game in the fourth inning and three Bluejay pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout to defeat South Dakota State in a pitchers’ duel, 1-0, Tuesday night in nonconference baseball action at Charles Schwab Field.
The Bluejays improved to 11-5 overall, while SDSU dropped to 2-14 on the season.
Creighton pushed across the lone run with three hits in the bottom of the fourth. Nolan Sailors opened the frame with a leadoff single against Jackrabbit reliever Tristan Augedahl and advanced to third base two batters later on a single by Nate McHugh. Sailors later scored on a base hit through the right side by Ben North.
Meanwhile, Creighton starter Ian Koosman stymied the Jackrabbits for seven innings, striking out nine and walking one while surrendering only two hits. Jimmy Burke and Garrett Langrell each worked one inning in relief, with Langrell picking up his fourth save of the season.
Nolan Grawe notched two of the Jackrabbits’ three hits in extending his hitting streak to 13 games. The freshman from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, doubled in the fourth inning and singled in the ninth, but was stranded in scoring position both times. SDSU left seven men on base in the contest.
Bryce Ronken collected SDSU’s only other hit, a single to lead off the sixth inning.
Jackrabbit starter Dylan Richey tossed three shutout innings in his second start of the season. The right-hander struck out four and walked two while allowing only one hit. Six different pitchers worked in the contest for SDSU, which limited Creighton to four hits.
The Jackrabbits are scheduled to play their first home game of the season Friday afternoon, hosting Summit League rival St. Thomas to open a three-game series. First pitch at a newly renovated Erv Huether Field is set for 3 p.m.
