James Bradley Lietz, 60, of Brookings, SD, passed away peacefully Friday Jan. 31, 2025.
A funeral service has been set for 10 a,m, Friday, Feb. 7, 2025, at Ascension Lutheran Church in Brookings, wth a visitation being held from 5 – 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings, SD.
James Bradley Lietz was born Feb. 18, 1964, in Hendricks, MN to Leona (Lacek) and Clarence Lietz. He grew up on the family farm south of Ivanhoe, MN.
Jim was united in marriage to Kimberly Peterson at McCrory Gardens in Brookings on June 5, 1993. Jim and Kim had two children, Ryan and Nicole.
Jim attended school and graduated from Ivanhoe High School in 1982 then attended Canby Area Vocational Technical Institute in Canby MN. He graduated with a Construction Electrician Associates Degree on July 17, 1984. After graduation he held various electrical jobs throughout Redwood Falls, MN, Marshall, MN, Sioux Falls, SD, and Brookings, SD. His true passion was helping out whenever possible at the family farm, which was a true place of peace for him.
Throughout his life Jim enjoyed spending time with his family doing various activities such as hunting, fishing, camping, and vacationing in Northern MN and the Grand Tetons. He especially loved camping and hunting in the Black Hills. He also enjoyed attending various sporting events for his children. Similarly, he enjoyed fixing and building various things and doing anything he could on his own. He was a true handyman.
Jim is survived by his wife, Kim of Brookings, SD; his children Ryan of Chandler, AZ and Nicole of Brookings, SD, brother Richard (Valarie) Lietz of Sioux Falls, SD, and Sister Donna (Les) of TX.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Leona and Clarence Lietz and father-in-law Keith Smith.
