Jane Elizabeth Pierce, age 69, of Volga, passed away on Friday, Dec. 20, 2024, at the Brookings hospital.
Memorial visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 5, at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in Volga.
Jane was born on July 14, 1955, to Glenn and Bonita (Grong) Pierce in Lake Preston, SD. She attended Sioux Valley High School. Jane was united in marriage to Gary Gross. To that union, they had two children, Karie and Ryan. Jane and Gary later divorced.
Jane worked for Land O’Lakes / Volga Ag Center from 1982 until her retirement at the age of 62 in 2017. She enjoyed going to work every day because of the people she worked with and met through her job. She always had a compassionate ear for anyone who needed one.
Jane had a true love for being in the Black Hills as that was her place to relax and rewind. She had a special place in her heart for animals. Jane will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and for being great at one-liners. We were lucky to see her personality shine through, even after her diagnosis with Lewy Body in 2019. She will be missed.
Survivors include her children, Karie (Eric) Benson of Volga, Ryan (Mandy Slocum) Gross of Harrisburg; grandchildren, Andrea (Brett) Herr of Brookings, Zach (Molly Hageman) Benson of Volga, Kylee Slocum of Sioux Falls, and Kendrick Droppers of Sioux Falls; brother, Tom (Irene) Pierce of Bruce and Pam (Rick) Adler of Volga; special friend, Duane Knutson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
