Janice Raske, 83, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025, at The Neighborhoods in Brookings, SD. A memorial service will be held for Janice on Thursday April 3, 2025 at Rude’s Funeral Home at 6pm with a memorial visitation being held an hour prior from 5-6pm.
Janice was born on April 27, 1941, in Brookings, the youngest of eight children born to Martin and Edna Thompson. She graduated from Brookings High School in 1959 and pursued her passion for hairstyling at Stewarts School of Hair. Her career began in various salons before she realized her dream of opening Janice’s Hair Salon, a beloved establishment located in her home. For years, she devoted herself to raising her children while bringing joy to her clients through her artistry and warmth.
Janice married Clifford Raske (deceased), and together they raised their six children: Joel, Lora, Penny, Jammie, Lesley, and Sheri. A devoted homemaker, Janice balanced her roles as a businesswoman and mother, always prioritizing her family. She cherished her role as a grandmother, doting on her grandchildren and creating lasting memories with them.
Janice is survived by her six children: Joel (Kimberly) and their children Mariah, MacKenzie, Kayla (Tyler), Alyssa, and Kendra; Lora; Penny Eliason (Steve) and their children Camden and Asher; Jammie (Talli) and their children Macahl and Maguire; Lesley Good (Ryan) and their children Kevi, Kai, and Brody; and Sheri Vaughn (Eric). She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Martin and Edna Thompson, and her siblings: sisters Beverly, Dorene, Dawn, and Marlys; and brothers Eugene, Dale, and Duane.
Janice’s life was a testament to love, dedication, and resilience. She will be remembered for her kind spirit, infectious laughter, and unwavering love for her family.
