Linda Catherine Tempel, age 81, died Tuesday March 11, 2025, at Banner Del Webb Hospital in Surprise, AZ.
She was born Nov. 15, 1943, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Richard Bakewell and Leone (Boulais) Hoff. Linda attended school in Waubay, SD, and graduated from Waubay High School in 1961.
She attended secretary training in Texas and then started that career in Watertown SD. She married Lawrence Tempel and moved to Aberdeen. She worked for the Department of Labor until moving to Brookings. Her first job there was for an engineering company until after the birth of her third daughter. Linda ran a long and successful daycare business in her home for over 30 years. She impacted so many families and children, and even after retiring to AZ she enjoyed the phone calls, fb messages and Christmas cards from those special kids. In the 21 years they lived in AZ she enjoyed traveling, bartending, and many of the activities at AZ Traditions.
Linda is survived by her four daughters, Mikelyn Tempel of Surprise, AZ, Kimberly (David) Molengraaf, Waxahachie TX, Ann (Kevin) Burns of Gretna, NE, and Kristin (Jason)Osbahr of DePere, WI, four granddaughters, Shelby (Ethan) Anguiano, Taylor (Jake) Villarreal, Maya Burns, Brynn Osbahr, five grandsons, Matthew Molengraaf, Joseph and Wesley Burns, Blake and Brock Osbahr, three great-grandchildren, sister Margaret Snover, brothers George Bakewell and Bob Hoff, many nieces and nephews. Preceding Linda in death is her husband of 52 years, Lawrence Tempel, her parents Richard Bakewell and Leone (Les) Hoff, brothers Mike Bakewell, Bill Hoff, sister, Pat (Oakland) Olson.
There will be a memorial service in Brookings, SD, at a later date.
