The Make A Difference project sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary culminated with the Hobo Day Parade. The project is held every year as a way to help the Brookings Schools with costs for necessities the students need. In the past the members of the auxiliary would donate/buy clothing items for the children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Because of health and privacy awareness, the auxiliary now donates the money to the school to use as needed.
The auxiliary members served coffee, cider and hot chocolate along with donuts to the Hobo Day parade watchers. A table and chair to sit at and a hot beverage and donut was a comfort to many of the parade participants.
This year the donations amounted to $405. The VFW Auxiliary gave $125 to Hillcrest, Medary, Dakota Elementary and Camelot Intermediate. The elementary schools at Peace Lutheran, Our Saviors Lutheran and St. Thomas More were each given $50 for their students.
The additional funding was given by the VFW Auxiliary.
