Phyllis Rosamond (Carr) Kohler, age 96, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024, at The Neighborhoods at Brookview.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 20, at First United Methodist Church in Brookings. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, at Eidsness Funeral Home.
Phyllis was born on June 20, 1928, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Edna (Thornton) Carr.
Phyllis moved to Watertown, SD, with her parents at a young age, and lived for seven years before moving to Pierre, SD. She was a graduate of the Pierre High School in 1946. She was a graduate of South Dakota State University with a degree in Home Economics and Business. She was employed as a secretary in Sioux Falls and L.G. Everest, and in Brookings at Larson Mfg. and as a ward secretary at the Hospital.
She was united in marriage to Paul Kohler in 1950, in Pierre, SD.
She was an a active member of the First United Methodist Church, taught Sunday School, served on the Family Life Committee, Circle, and Care Group. She was a Den Mother for her four sons and in 4-H with her daughter. She was also a member of Extension Club, PEO, Bridge Club, Book Club, Faculty Wives, Bible Study and Prayer Group. Paul and Phyllis wintered in Casa Grande, AZ for 22 years where Phyllis volunteered for Hospice and Head Start.
Survivors include her children, James (Mary) Kohler of Brookings, Nancy Kay (Thomas) Stubbs of Huston, MO, Paul, Jr. (Cleo) Kohler of Spearfish, SD, Thomas Robert Kohler of Tempe, AZ; daughter-in-law Joan Patience of Pierre, SD; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; two sisters, June and Marian; two brothers, Charles and Robert; and one son, Charles Carr.
