The Brookings Rangers boys varsity team put together a dominant performance on Saturday night, blowing out Sioux Center 14-0 at the Larson Ice Center.

Ranger boys throttle Sioux Center

BROOKINGS — The Brookings Rangers boys varsity team put together a dominant performance on Saturday night, blowing out Sioux Center 14-0 at the Larson Ice Center.

Brookings outshot Sioux Center 60-3. It didn’t take long for the Rangers to get on the board as Luke Honkomp scored a minute and 32 seconds into the game. He was assisted by Jackson Heller. Cooper Deatherage then made it 2-0 with three minutes into the game and Honkomp assisted him.

Cody Jacobson then got in on the scoring with 11:12 left in the first period and he was assisted by Deatherage and Waylon Carroll. Heller scored with 10 minutes left in the period and was assisted by Honkomp and Tre Christopherson. Jacobson then netted his second goal with 2:10 left in the period and it was unassisted. Jay Harris scored the final goal of the period and he was assisted by Heller and Christopherson.

Harris would score again 1:32 into the second period and this time he was assisted by Honkomp. Talon Hyde then netted a goal 16 seconds later and he was assisted by Riley Linstad. Linstad then scored a goal of his own. It was a power play goal and it was assisted by Caleb Johnson and Honkomp. That made it 9-0 heading into the final period.

Harris completed the hat trick with 10:50 left in the game and this time he was unassisted. Honkomp scored his second goal of the game a minute and 35 seconds later and he was assisted by Hyde and Linstad. Carson Kludt then got in on the scoring with just over nine minutes remaining and he was assisted by Honkomp. Harris netted his fourth goal of the game with 6:39 to play and he was unassisted. The final goal of the game for the Rangers came from Linstad with 4:01 left and he was assisted by Honkomp.

Matthew Bothe was in net for the Rangers and saved all three Sioux Center shots.

The Rangers improved to 6-1 and will play Huron in Brookings on Friday at 8 p.m. They’ll then head to Aberdeen on Saturday and take on the Cougars at 7:30 p.m.
