BROOKINGS – The Brookings Rangers girls varsity team dominated the Rushmore Thunder over the weekend with three victories.
The Rangers won 8-2 on Friday night, 6-0 on Saturday and 12-1 on Sunday. Brookings is now 13-4 and will play in a tournament in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, this weekend.
Friday
Brookings 8, Rushmore 2
Brookings led 6-0 after the first two periods. Miyah Foerster scored two goals in the first period. The first one came with 7:42 left in the period and it was assisted by Kinzey Grendler. The second one came with just three seconds left in the period and it was assisted by Maya Edmison.
Ashton Otteson made it 3-0 with 13:45 left in the second period and she was assisted by Jordyn Anderson and Brooke Kruse. Sawyer Triplett scored a minute and a half later and she was assisted by Ava Kahle and Brynleea Peterson.
Khale then scored a goal of her own with 8:36 left in the second and she was assisted by Anna Rasmussen. A little over two minutes later Triplett made it 6-0 with an unassisted goal.
Evan Woods got Rushmore on the board a little under three minutes into the third and her goal was assisted by Belita Haangala. Haangala then scored a goal of her own with 8:35 left in the game and was assisted by Evan Woods.
Kahle stretched the lead to 7-2 with 5:46 left in the game and she was assisted by Rasmussen. Miyah Foerster then completed the hat trick with 1:44 to play and she was assisted by Allie Jacobson.
The Rangers had a 45-30 advantage in shots. Rorii Quam had 28 saves for Brookings.
Saturday
Brookings 6, Rushmore 0
Brookings led 1-0 after the first period on Saturday night. Miyah Foerster stayed hot as she scored with 8:27 left in the first period.
The Rangers added three more goals in the second period. Kahle made it 2-0 just over two minutes into the period and she was assisted by Triplett and Rasmussen. Miyah Foerster then netted her second with just under 10 minutes left in the period and she was assisted by Triplett and Khale. She then completed another hat trick with an unassisted goal with 4:12 left in the period.
Grendler made it 5-0 with 16:18 left in the game and she was assisted by Miyah Foerster. Kahle scored the final goal of the game for the Rangers and she was assisted by Triplett and Rasmussen.
The Rangers outshot the Thunder 43-22. Quam had a shutout in net for Brookings.
Sunday
Brookings 12, Rushmore 1
The Rangers led 6-0 after the first period. Otteson got the scoring going for the Rangers with 14:05 left in the first period and she was assisted by Rasmussen and Triplett. Triplett then scored two unassisted goals in a span of six seconds. Miyah Foerster made it 4-0 with 7:50 left in the first and she was assisted by Grendler.
Triplett completed the first period hat trick with a goal that was assisted by Rasmussen with 4:45 left in the period. Miyah Foerster scored the final goal of the first with just under two minutes left in the period and she was assisted by Grendler and Emily Meyer.
Rasmussen pushed the lead to 7-0 six minutes into the period and she was assisted by Triplett and Kahle. Grendler then scored with five minutes left in the period and she was assisted by Miyah Foerster.
Triplett scored another unassisted goal with 14:40 left in the game. Kahlei Foerster then scored a power play goal with 10:20 left in the game. Rasmussen extended the lead to 11-0 with eight minutes left and she was assisted by Triplett and Kahle. Triplett then scored her fifth goal of the game with 5:02 to play and was assisted by Rasmussen. Woods scored an unassisted goal with 2:30 left to get the Thunder on the board.
Brookings had a 50-15 advantage in shots. Quam was in net for the Rangers again and had 14 saves.
