The Brookings Rangers girls varsity team picked up a pair of wins over the Aberdeen Cougars over the weekend. Both games were close as the Rangers won 3-1 on Friday and then had a 3-2 overtime victory on Saturday.

ABERDEEN — The Brookings Rangers girls varsity team picked up a pair of wins over the Aberdeen Cougars over the weekend. Both games were close as the Rangers won 3-1 on Friday and then had a 3-2 overtime victory on Saturday.
The Rangers netted two goals in the final three minutes of the third period and that earned them the victory on Friday night.
Sawyer Triplett gave the Rangers the lead in the second period. The goal came with 11:42 left in the period and it was assisted by Kinzey Grendler. Olivia Sandvig then tied things up just over five minutes into the third period.
Ava Kahle broke the 1-1 tie with 2:18 left in the game. The game-winning goal was assisted by Anna Rasmussen. Rasmussen then scored her own goal with 32 seconds left and it was unassisted and made the final 3-1.
Aberdeen had a 34-17 advantage in shots. Rorii Quam was in net for the Rangers and made 32 saves.
The Rangers were able to pull out another close win on Saturday as Miyah Foerster scored the game-winning goal with 1:53 left in overtime. It was an unassisted game winner.
Julissa Peterson gave Brookings an early lead as she scored two minutes and 53 seconds into the game. Alyssa Roerhich would tie the game with 4:18 left in the second period. 12 seconds later Grendler gave the Rangers the lead again with an unassisted goal. Kaylee Dixon scored a short handed goal with 9:29 left in the third period to send the game to overtime.
Aberdeen had 37 shots and Brookings had 27. Quam made 35 saves in the victory.
