The Brookings Rangers JV team went 4-0 to win their home tournament over the weekend, besting a field of 12 teams from Minnesota, South Dakota and North Dakota.

BROOKINGS — The Brookings Rangers JV team went 4-0 to win their home tournament over the weekend, besting a field of 12 teams from Minnesota, South Dakota and North Dakota.

Rangers 8, Elk River 1

Brookings opened the tournament with an 8-1 victory over the Elks.

Parker Nielsen, Maxten Jensen and Andrew Hahn all scored twice for the Rangers. Mason Diers and Rhys Heiberger also scored. Hahn also had three assists for a playmaker.

Cooper Schneider had a pair of assists, and Nielson, Diers, Mauer Bartley and Jason Ready each had helpers.

Ryder Anderson got the win in net and Brookings outshot Elk River 44-6.

Rangers 4, Capitals United 2

The Rangers kept on winning Friday with a 4-2 win over Capitals United. Brookings jumped out to a 2-0, then battled back from a 2-all tie.

Waylon Carroll, Schneider, Connor Buckley and Jensen had the goals for Brookings. Hahn had two assists. Bartley, Mavrick Bortnem, Ready and Nielsen also chipped in assists.

Anderson again got the win between the pipes as Brookings outshot the Capitals 37-15.

Rangers 5, Shakopee 2

Brookings easily won its semifinal, cruising to a 4-0 lead and then holding on for a 5-2 victory.

Lucas Hovelson, Nielsen, Buckley, Jensen and Ready all found the net for the Rangers. Bartley, Buckley and Bortnem had assists.

The Sabers racked up six penalties over the final two periods.

Anderson got the win in goal, stopping 11 of 13 Shakopee shots. Brookings finished with 33 shots on goal.

Rangers 5, Yankton Bucks 1

The Rangers handled a familiar foe in the championship, downing Yankton 5-1. Brookings was down 1-0 after two periods, but exploded for five goals in the third to win the championship.

Maxten Jensen scored twice, and Buckley, Nielson and Ready added goals to the late onslaught.
Hahn had two assists, as did Nielsen. Carroll and Bortnem each had one.

Anderson again got the win between the pipes as Brookings outshot the Bucks 34-13.

Bantam A

Rangers 7, Huron 0

Brookings kept its league-leading campaign rolling with a 7-0 win over the All-Stars at home Saturday.

Un-Hyeng Keay had a hat trick to lead the Rangers, who also got goals from Atwood Ahmann, Ethan Foerster, Egan Jensen and Jack Lovseth.

Cannon Friedrich added two assists, and Graham Gerlach, Ahmann and Foerster chipped in one each.

Jon Drew stopped three Huron shots to earn the shutout as Brookings oushot the All-Starts 38-3.

Bantam B

Aberdeen 2, Rangers 0

Brookings fell to 3-3 in league play with a shutout loss at Aberdeen.

The Rangers outshot the Cougars 31-9, but could not beat Aberdeen goalie Levi Edwards.

14U Girls

Rangers 9, Huron 3

The Brookings girls 14U team moved to 6-2 in league play with a 9-3 win over Huron in Brookings on Saturday.

Grace Devries had a hat trick to lead Brookings, and Ashton Otteson scored twice for the Rangers. Brooke Kruse also had a pair and Allie Jacobson and Jordyn Anderson each found the net.

Kruse had a pair of assists, and Khloe Ziegeldorf, Lorelei Koch, Kahlei Foerster and Beatrix Hovey-Stubbles all had one. Avery Dentlinger and Ava Vaughn split time in net.

Pee Wee A

The Brookings Pee Wee A team made a strong run to the title game of the Winter Classic Tournament in Fargo, falling in the final game.

In pool play, Brookings defeated Steinbach 3-0 to open the tournament. They then made a strong comeback to beat Mayport 4-1. The Rangers then blanked Bismarck Red, 4-0, to enter semifinal play.

The Rangers made the finals thanks to a 3-2 win over a strong Mankato team Sunday morning.

West Fargo Yellow won the tournament later Sunday by defeating Brookings, 5-2.
