BROOKINGS — Brookings Health System is providing two scholarships to bi-lingual individuals who speak both Spanish and English for the upcoming birth and postpartum doula workshop, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
Each scholarship covers the $875 training fee, books and doula certification. Scholarship recipients promise to enroll as a doula with Brookings Health System to serve Spanish-speaking patients for at least two years. Applicants will need to pass a background check and other doula program requirements.
Class instruction will be held in Brookings Hospital’s conference room A from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
The workshop will provide hands-on education for providing physical and emotional support to birthing women and their families. The curriculum has also been approved by the South Dakota Department of Social Services for individuals wishing to enroll as a Medicaid doula provider in South Dakota.
Individuals interested in applying for the scholarship should email a letter of interest by Jan. 15 to Obstetrics Director Michelle Sand at msand@brookingshealth.org.
