BROOKINGS — South Dakota State failed to make the Summit League Tournament after losing two of three games to Omaha this weekend.

The Jackrabbits lost the series opener 16-6 on Thursday and then fell 10-2 on Friday and that eliminated SDSU from the postseason. SDSU was able to win the series finale 14-11 on Saturday.

It was the first time since 2012 that the Jacks failed to make the tournament. They finished the season with an overall record of 20-29 and had an 11-17 Summit League record. SDSU lost its final four series in conference play.

Friday

The Mavericks jumped out to a 6-0 lead with three runs in both the first and second inning. A walk and two singles loaded the bases with one out. Matt Goetzmann scored on a Jackson Trout ground out and Haiden Hunt then hit a two-run double to make it 3-0.

Cardel Dick led off the second with a single and Henry Zipay followed with a walk. Drew Lechnir then came to the plate with one out and hit one over the right field wall to make it 6-0 heading into third.

SDSU got on the board in the sixth inning. Cael Frost came to the plate with two outs and ripped one over the left center field wall to make it 6-1. Bryce Ronken then came to the plate with the bases loaded but struck out so the Jacks couldn’t do any more damage.

Omaha extended the lead back to six in the top of the seventh. Tyler Palmer hit a pinch hit single and he came around to score on a triple from Goetzmann. SDSU cut the lead back to five in the bottom of the inning. Daegen Schramm walked with one and then scored on a double from Stuff to make it 7-2.
