BROOKINGS — South Dakota State University Extension is pleased to welcome Erin Hallenbeck as its new health and physical activity field specialist.
As a member of the Family, Food and Wellness team, Hallenbeck will lead SDSU Extension programs like Walk with Ease, Tai Chi for Arthritis and Enhance Fitness, while collaborating with the South Dakota Department of Health on physical activity initiatives. She is based in Sioux Falls.
“I am excited for the potential this position has to reach and impact a large amount of people,” Hallenbeck said.
A native of Warner, Hallenbeck earned bachelor’s degrees in exercise science and community and public health from SDSU, and a master’s in nutrition and exercise science from SDSU.
Prior to joining SDSU Extension, she served as the program director of healthy living at Valley of the Sun YMCA in Mesa, Arizona, and said she is thrilled to be back in her home state.
“Erin brings a wealth of experience working with community members on identifying and implementing health and wellness programming,” said Michelle Tjeerdsma, SDSU Extension family, food and wellness program director. “We are excited to have her mix of education, experience and energy on our team.”
