VOLGA — Suspects have been identified and an arrest made in a Jan. 30 burglary at Valley Mart in Volga that involved cash being taken from video lottery machines, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Sioux Falls resident Jacob Gertsema, 27, was arrested in Sioux Falls and was taken to the Brookings County Detention Center, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring wrote in a news release. A check showed Gertsema was still there as of Wednesday afternoon.

Sebring wrote that Gertsema is facing multiple charges: petty theft, intentional damage to property, tampering with a video lottery machine and grand theft. He is being held on a $7,500 cash bond and a parole detainer.

Kenneth Carder, 32, and Larissa Messenbrink, 26, both of Sioux Falls, were identified as the other two suspects in the burglary. Both were still at large on Wednesday afternoon, and Sebring reminded the public not to approach them.

“If they are seen or their whereabouts (are known), please call 911 immediately,” Sebring wrote.

Carder faces charges of intentional damage to property, tampering with a video lottery machine and intentional damage, according to the release. Messenbrink is facing two charges — grand theft and not having a valid driver’s license.
