HAYTI — The Sioux Valley boys’ track and field team came in first place at the Banana Relays at Hamlin High School on Tuesday afternoon.
The Cossack boys finished with 183 points and edged out Watertown for first place. The Sioux Valley girls came in third place with 148 points. They finished behind Clark/Willow Lake (193) and Watertown (183).
Sioux Valley will participate in a field events only meet in Elkton on Monday at 4 p.m.
The Cossacks had three individual champions on the boys’ side. Donovan Rose won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.02 seconds. Jakob Guthmiller won the long jump with a jump of five feet and 10 inches. Braden Danzeisen won the triple jump (40’ 5.5”).
Sioux Valley dominated the relay races, winning all but the 4x100 race. Rose, Jakob Guthmiller, Carson Wosje and Mitchell Guthmiller won the 4x200 (1:31.78) and Wosje, Brock Christopherson, Brady Hiltunen and Mitchell Guthmiller won the 4x400 (3:27.58). Christopherson, Wosje, Mitchell Guthmiller and Hiltunen won the 4x800 (9:19.95) and Rose, Jakob Guthmiller, Hiltunen and Christopherson won the sprint medley relay (3:50.61).
Hunter Steinhaus came in second in the 200 meter run (25.03) and third in the 400 (55.55). Ethan Hemmestad came in third in the 100 (11.80) and Tyrus Schulz came in fifth in the 1600 (5:06.25).
Wyatt Nelson came in second in the discus (121’ 4”) and Levi Loban came in fourth (112’ 2”) in the same event. Tyson Norgaard came in second in the triple jump (36’ 3”). Landon Hanssen came in third in the shot put (38’ 10”) and fifth in the discus (110’ 0”). Braden Danzeisen came in fifth in the javelin (128’ 10”) and Brendin Moe came in fifth in the triple jump (33’ 0.5”).
Adison Renkly was the lone individual winner for the Cossacks on the girls side. She came in first place in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.86.
Sioux Valley won two relay races. Amari Ward, Audrey Larsen, Caitlin Russell and Renkly came in first in the 4x100 (52.88) and Amari Ward, Renkly, Amia Ward and Maci Licht won the sprint medley relay (4:24.71).
Licht came in second in the 200 (27.61) and Amya Ward came in second in the 400 (1:06.04). Talya Vincent came in second inthe 800 (2:31.06). Amari Ward came in fourth in the 100 (13.73) and Amia Ward came in fourth in the 200 (28.53). Ava Gatzke came in fourth in the 1600 (6:26.75) and fifth in the 800 (2:52.43). Audrey Larsen came in fifth in the 100 (13.79).
Emma Gorvin came in second in the high jump (4’ 10”) and Amari Ward came in second in the long jump (15’ 8”). Porshia VanderWal came in second in the discus (96’ 3”) and Miley Keating came in fourth in the triple jump (29’ 0.5”).
