Sioux Valley wins 18th straight Class A cheer championship

The Sioux Valley Cossacks took home their 18th straight Class A State Championship in competitive cheer as they competed at the SDHSAA Class A State Competitive Cheer and Dance Meet at Summit Arena at The Monument on Saturday afternoon.

Sioux Valley wins 18th straight Class A cheer championship

RAPID CITY — The Sioux Valley Cossacks took home their 18th straight Class A State Championship in competitive cheer as they competed at the SDHSAA Class A State Competitive Cheer and Dance Meet at Summit Arena at The Monument on Saturday afternoon.

The Cossacks finished with a team total of 267 points, which defeated runner-up Wolsey-Wessington (250.5). Parkston finished third with 249.5 points, Winner Area finished fourth with 246.5 points and Dell Rapids rounded out the top five with 238 points.

Elkton-Lake Benton finished seventh with 229.5 points and Deubrook Area finished 10th with 202.5 points.

Sioux Valley also finished first place in large cheer with 267 points. Winner Area finished second with 246.5 points while Dell Rapids had 238 points. Dell Rapids St. Mary finished fourth with 232.5 points and Elkton-Lake Benton finished fifth with 229.5 points.

Deubrook Area finished fourth place in small cheer with 202.5 points. Wolsey-Wessington was first with 250.5 points followed by Parkston with 249.5 points and St. Thomas More with 216.5 points. Wagner rounded out the top five with 200.5 points. Iroquois/Lake Preston finished sixth with 194.5 points.

Dakota Valley won the grand champion dance competition with 291.75 points. Gregory finished second with 232.5 points, Platte Geddes/AC/DC finished third with 229.5 points, Winner Area finished fourth with 218.5 points and Hot Springs finished fifth with 211.25 points.

Platte-Geddes/AC/DC won the hip-hop title with a score of 235.5 points. Gregory was second with 233 points, Hot Springs was third with 207.5 points, Belle Fourche finished fourth with 181 points and Lakota Tech finished fifth with 171.5 points.

Dakota Valley won the title in jazz with 291 points. Winner Area was second with 210 points and Lakota Tech finished third with 180.5 points.

Dakota Valley also won the state title in pom with 292.5 points. Gregory was second with 231 points, Winner Area was third with 227 points, Platte-Geddes/AC/DC was fourth with 223.5 points and Hot Springs was fifth with 215 points.
